BANNED BOOK GIVEAWAY HOP

Thanks so much to these two great blogs for hosting this hop - BookHounds  and I am a Reader

I am so very excited to be apart of this hop. Banned Books have always been a huge interest of mine. Why do books get challenged or banned? What was so horrific in the book that people were scared of it? Maybe it is the naughty aspect of it. Oh this book is bad or so they say. Some of the best books I have ever read are challenged or banned. The Giver by Lois Lowry or Harry Potter for that matter.  Banned Books are actually what got me blogging. I started my very first blog so I could participate in a banned book challenge. For the challenge I read -
1. Taming the Star Runner, by S.E. Hinton
2.“The Perks of Being A Wallflower,” by Stephen Chbosky
3. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Alexie Sherman
4.  Spirit Bound By Richelle Mead
5. The Earth, My Butt and Other Big, Round Things by Carolyn Mackler

If you are interested in my reviews my old blog is still up.

A few years before I started the blog I had challenged myself to read though the long ALA banned and/or challenged book list . And on that list I found so many of the books that have become my favorites.

I read through many of the books but more and more get added all the time but I do try and keep tabs on what is banned/challenged and they always get added to my TBR pile. :)

The Anastasia books by Lois Lowry are challenged and the last time I was reading through banned books I read the whole series. They were cute, funny and very witty books. All the books in there series were challenged but Anastasia Again! was actually banned. The book was written in 1981 and was banned due to a reference to beer (she actually sucks the foam off her dad's beer), playboy magazines and Anastasia making light of wanting to kill herself according to the parent that wanted it banned. It one sentence that most kids probably did not even recall.

The Number one Challenged book for 1990-1999 was - Scary Stories (series), by Alvin Schwartz
The Number one Challenged book for 2000-2009 was - Harry Potter (series), by J.K. Rowling

It was hard for me to narrow down what I wanted to do for the actual giveaway, there are so many books to choose from. But on to the giveaway.  Up for Grabs is one book that can be found on the banned/challenged list that I feel like everyone should read and give them a chance. (edition may be different from one pictured) The winner will make their choice from the list. Open to The US at the moment. (Sorry International I hope to offer something for you guys soon)

This one is my husband's favorite book and was just challenged again this week.
